If you would like to give a gift by check please make checks payable
to “My Father’s House” and mail to My Fathers House, 39 North Moodus
Road, Moodus, CT 06469, Attention: Lea Dolinsky.
If you work for a company with matching gift programs, you may be able to double or triple the value of your gift to “My Father’s House”. Companies will often match the contributions of spouses and retirees, as well as those of employees. Simply obtain a matching gift form from your company (usually the Human Recourses or Community Relations Department), fill it out and send it with your contribution. We will take care of the rest. SecuritiesGifts of securities such as stocks and mutual fund shares are a great way to donate to My Father’s House. In most cases, you can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift. Gifts of Personal PropertyThe acceptance of gifts of personal property is made on a case-by-case basis. Law prohibits My Father’s House from appraising the value of gifts of personal property. For donations of personal property valued by the donor at $500 or greater, the donor must complete the appropriate IRS forms for tax deduction purposes; for property valued at $5,000 or more, the donor must obtain a qualified, independent appraisal. Gifts of Real EstateGifts of real estate, also accepted on a case-by-case basis, may include developed or undeveloped property. New Pension Tax Law for 2007If you are at least 70 ½ years of age, for the calendar year 2007, you are allowed to make a TAX FREE distribution of up to $100,000 from an IRA (Individual Retirement Account) to a non-profit organization such as “My Father’s House”.
If you have saved tax-deferred income in an IRA and must begin taking distributions at age 70 ½, you will pay income tax on the amount that is withdrawn. However, by making a gift directly to a tax-exempt organization like “My Father’s House” from your IRA in an amount equal to or more than the required minimum distribution for that year, you will avoid paying taxes on the amount.
To date, this new pension law applies only to calendar year 2007. The limit is $100,000 per taxpayer and a married couple may gift up to $200,000 provided each spouse owns at least one IRA. Gifts must be outright.
