God Bless America

!
What's Inside?

Have we forgotten America's roots and turned our backs on the two pillars George Washington called the Foundation of our country - morality and religion? Fr. McCarthy shows we have, but suggests there are ways back to grace and strongly calls for action. This book shows how America was founded on the laws of nature, the Bible, and the God-given inalienable dignity and right to life of every citizen. A strong and urgent call back to our roots as a nation under God.

"The propitious [favorable] smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained."
GEORGE WASHINGTON

"The Bible is the rock upon which our republic rests."
ANDREW JACKSON

"A nation that will not be ruled by the Ten Commandments, shall be ruled by tyrants."

Listening to God

!
What's Inside?

The most important thing in life is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And the most important part of that relationship is our intimate communion with Him. He lives in our heart. He speaks to us by His Spirit in many and varied ways. Throughout the 6,000 years of Judaic Christian history, many men and women have learned to listen to, to discern and to obey the voice of the Master.

Prayer is not simply talking to God; rather, it is a two-way street, a communication between God and us. We must learn to talk and to listen. We must learn the ways in which God speaks to us and what His voice sounds like. Some years ago, someone asked Catherine of Sienna, Why is this that in the Bible God is speaking all over the place, whereas today, hardly anyone hears God." And Catherine said in response, "Because then their prayer was 'Speak Lord, your servant is listening.' Whereas today, our prayer is, 'Listen Lord, your servant is speaking.'"

" Take up this book, you will not let it down."

The Eucharist

!

What's Inside?

"The Holy Eucharist contains the Church's entire spiritual wealth. It is the summit of Catholic devotion."
Pope John Paul II

Something extraordinary happened on January 16, 2001. For the first time in the recorded history of the Catholic Church, Pope John Paul II issued an unprecedented document called "As We Enter the Third Millennium." In this magnificent letter, the Holy Father gives us his pastoral plan for the whole church in the new millennium and outlines eight priorities for each and every Catholic around the world:

1. Sincerely striving to be more holy
2. To engage in a more prayerful conversation with God
3. Centering our lives upon the Eucharist
4. Participating in frequent confession
5. To live by grace and listen to the inspirations of the Spirit
6. Meditating on the Scriptures and the new Catechism
7. To bring the Gospel of truth and life to a dark and broken world
8. Frequent recitation of the Holy Rosary

The Our Father

!

What's Inside?

The greatest of all prayers is the Lord's Prayer. Taught by Jesus through His Father as inspired by the Holy Spirit, it summarizes the whole gospel.

In this book, Fr. Bill McCarthy has compiled four of the most inspiring treatments on the Lord's Prayer that unlock the secrets hidden in this timeless and powerful prayer.

The four commentaries are from St. Cyprian in the 3rd Century, St. Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century, the new Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Fr. Bill McCarthy, whose own commentary is based upon his five "P"s or principles that explain how the Our Father embodies every prayer request you could ever imagine.

Just as Jesus gave the Lord's Prayer to His disciples, it remains a rich source for His disciples of today — you - to deepen and inspire your own prayerlife and, thus, intimacy with Him.

Being Virtuous in a Non-Virtuous World - Co-Authored by Mary Alice Rossini, NP

!

A Non-Virtuous World

One needs to just read the headlines in the daily newspaper to realize we are living in a non-virtuous world.  Murder, lust, greed, pride, hatred, rivalries ever more abound and ever more are reported in the media.  Seldom is the good news highlighted; yet the world will be a better place only through virtue.  Without virtue, good is not done; and families continue to be destroyed, nations continue to favor the rich, and disease, alienation and violence continue to increase.  Presently 80% of the world still lives in sub-human conditions, and it is getting worse.  Children worldwide are at risk, as are families, the plight of women and marriages.  Two billion babies have been annihilated by abortion.  Europe, having lost its Christian moorings, is now described as “uncivilized,” as crime flourishes and governments compromise values and personhood.

Virtue

The main source of happiness and justice for the world is the personal virtue of every person.  No system of laws will bring it about; in fact, a synonym for a system today would be “sin.”  The economic system - as such, the entertainment system, the political system, the educational system, the legal system, and even in some parts, the religious system in most countries are filled with error, arrogance, dishonesty and greed.  Virtue is goodness, love and truth in action.  Personal virtue is the key to improving the world, helping others, finding happiness, stabilizing families, respecting life, educating children and healing alienation.
